The José María Bermúdez de Castro Library is a public library belonging to the National Research Center on Human Evolution (CENIEH), specializing in resources related to human evolution. Although it is open to the public, some services are specifically intended for the Center’s research staff.
COLLECTIONS AND RESOURCES
The Library holds a bibliographic collection of more than 3,000 monographs, as well as a selection of national and international journals related to the Center’s research programs: Archaeology, Paleobiology, Geochronology and Geology. It also houses a collection of geological cartographic material at a scale of 1:50,000 published by the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME).
By virtue of the collaboration agreement signed with the University of Burgos (UBU), the collections available at the CENIEH Library can be consulted through the general catalog of the University of Burgos Library by selecting the “CENIEH Library” option in the filters. Through this catalog, users also have access to databases and the possibility of searching for and acquiring other relevant information and documentation.
ACCESS AND USE OF THE LIBRARY
The Library and Scientific Documentation Service manages documentation and bibliographic information to support research in areas related to human evolution. Its services are aimed both at the Center’s staff and the general public, although some are exclusively available to research staff.
The service provides basic guidance on the location and use of its collections and resources, as well as specialized support in bibliographic searches, the use of scientific databases and reference management tools, together with training and assistance in any matters related to our services.
READING ROOM
The CENIEH Library has 18 reading stations where its collections can be freely consulted, classified in accordance with the UDC system. Likewise, users can access the Internet at four stations to consult the catalog and other digital resources.
LOAN SERVICE
The following loan policy is in place:
CENIEH staff or associate staff: up to 15 documents for 90 days. They also have access to the Interlibrary Loan Service, in accordance with the regulations established by the lending library.
Members of the University of Burgos academic community: up to 3 documents for 15 days.
General public: on-site consultation only.
The following are excluded from the loan service: reference works (encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, catalogs, directories, etc.), special materials due to their age, value or use, cartographic material, and unpublished research works (theses).
BIBLIOMETRIC AND BIBLIOGRAPHIC SEARCHES
The Library service provides support to research staff in locating specialized information, preparing bibliometric reports, and advising researchers in scientific evaluation processes.
REPROGRAPHY
Reproduction and digitization of internal materials in accordance with current intellectual property regulations.
NEWSLETTER
The “New Acquisitions Bulletin” is also available to the public, providing information on the latest documents added to the CENIEH Library, which are physically located in the Library’s new acquisitions section.
