Request for Electron Spin Resonance SR2024-I
The objective of this call is to offer access to the facilities of the Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) Laboratory at CENIEH for activities related to the ESR dose evaluation of quartz grain samples and enamel, including (i) gamma irradiation and (ii) UV bleaching.
(i) and (ii) will be carried out by the CENIEH staff only.
In order to be properly evaluated, the requests should include the following:
A brief scientific description of the project, including its relevance, originality and innovative nature.
A CV of the Principal Investigator. Note that the CV of other members of the research team may also be submitted for evaluation (although not mandatory).
Proposals should be submitted from 8 April to 30 April 2024. The call will remain open until 11:59 pm (Madrid time) on the last day. Any request received after the deadline indicated will not be evaluated.
The following information should be also included in the proposal under the tab “General information in the Project / Experiment section” of the User Office portal:
- Irradiation doses requested.
The total number of samples to be processed, as well as the number of aliquots and the irradiation doses per sample.
Necessity or not of vial preparation by the laboratory**.
Need to send vials for sample preparation (division into aliquots) by the applicant***.
Whether the sample splitting in multiple aliquots will have to be performed by CENIEH staff (if so, this will imply an additional cost and delay in sample processing)
** The preparation of vials (division into aliquots) by the laboratory will incur an additional cost. It will be done according to the availability of the laboratory staff.
*** Shipping costs will be at the applicant's expense.
Conditions
The analyses will be carried out between the reception of the samples and 30 December 2024.
A maximum of 200 samples will be accepted for this call.
The samples to be irradiated and/or UV-bleached shall be received within 3 months after the publication of the results of the call.
The samples will be preferentially processed following their order of arrival in the lab, although other factors (e.g., number of aliquots and irradiation times) will also be taken into account to optimize irradiation and bleaching times.
Facilities
Gamma irradiation will be performed on a Gammacell-1000 (Cs-137)
UV bleaching will be carried out with a Dr Honle SOL2 sunlight simulator
