The call CR2026-I for competitive access to the Laboratory of Conservation and Restoration of Archaeological and Paleontological Cultural Heritage is now open:

The CR2026-I call will cover the execution of the proposed work from the resolution and receipt of the items until August 31, 2026.
- Tariff A, as established in the general rates published at the time of the resolution, will be applied to accepted competitive access proposals.
- To submit your proposal, register with the User Office before creating it, or use your username and password to create it. Complete the Competitive Access tab and select the code CR2026-I.

Request for Conservation & restoration CR2026-I
This call includes requests for preventive conservation, remedial conservation, and restoration interventions on archaeological and paleontological heritage, both in situ and at the CENIEH CR Laboratory.
The CR2026-I call will accept up to 200 working hours, assessed by CR Laboratory staff, with a recommended maximum of 100 hours per application. If multiple applications are received and can be completed within the timeframe, requests exceeding the recommended maximum may be accepted. All applications will be analyzed in detail during evaluation to determine the required working time.
To submit your proposal, you must:
- Register or log in to the CENIEH User Office portal using your username and password.
- Select the Competitive Access tab and choose code CR2026-I. Attach the CR2026-I COMPETITIVE FORM (click on the name to download the template) and the CVA of the PI and/or applicant.
- In the Project/Experiment section, provide a detailed description of the cultural heritage to be treated at the CENIEH CR Laboratory to enable accurate estimation of the required working hours:
- Number of items
- Chronology / Period
- Nature: bone, lithic industry, ceramics, metal (specify), glass, stone, wood, mural painting, etc. If materials are heterogeneous, describe each group or item
- Brief description of the assemblage
- Graphic documentation of each item or the assemblage
- Additional documentation to be attached to the application
It is essential to include the report using the template available on the website and the CVA of the PI and/or applicant. All required information must be complete for the application to be evaluated.
Applications submitted outside the deadline and/or without the required documentation will not be evaluated.
You must also provide a detailed description of the service requested from the CR Laboratory and the information required in the report:
- Objective of the request (expected outcome after intervention: research, exhibition, etc.)
- Remedial conservation and restoration treatments: mechanical-chemical cleaning, physical cleaning using EOS COMBO Nd-YAG:1064 nm laser equipment (Short Free Running (SFR) and Long Q-Switched (LQS)), corrosion inhibition, biocide treatment, desalination, consolidation, reconstruction, formal and chromatic reintegration, etc. If materials are heterogeneous, describe each group or item
- Molds and reproductions (1:1)
- Preventive conservation interventions: technical advice, environmental control, storage systems, packaging (transport), exhibition systems, etc.
The cultural heritage to be treated must be delivered to the facilities of the CENIEH Conservation and Restoration Laboratory.
This service also includes the preparation of a SUMMARY REPORT containing a photographic dossier of the intervention. This report has a fixed fee.
Similarly, a detailed description must be provided for services requested in the field or outside CENIEH facilities. Travel by CR Laboratory staff will only be carried out for conservation-restoration work:
- Preventive, remedial conservation and restoration in the field: in situ conservation methods, extraction systems, storage and transport systems, field laboratory, etc.
- In situ molds: occupation surfaces, stratigraphy, impressions, ichnites, etc.
- Collection analysis and technical advice in conservation
Billing for the work will be issued once completed. If a prior estimate is required for expense authorization or advance payment, it must be requested before the work is completed.
Proposals may be submitted between March 19 and April 19, 2026, before 11:59 p.m. (peninsular time). Any electronic application received after this date and time will not be evaluated in this call.
