This is one of the most important geochronology congresses in the world, which will unite more than 400 experts in Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR), in Burgos from July 12 to 17, 2020
Burgos has been chosen as the seat of the LED 2020 (Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating) Congress, one of the world’s most important events in geochronology, which brings together experts in Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) Dating every three years, as announced at a press conference this morning by Davinia Moreno and Gloria López, geochronologists at the Centro Nacional de Investigación sobre la Evolución Humana (CENIEH).
Last September, at the fifteenth edition of this Congress, held in Cape Town (South Africa), the two geochronologists presented the candidature of the CENIEH to bring its sixteenth meeting to Spain, competing against major institutions in China, Denmark and Turkey.
Spain has been awarded this event because there were several factors in its favor. "The professionalism of our candidature, much greater than that of our competitors, was fundamental, thanks to the support of the Congresses Office of Burgos City Council”, explains Davinia Moreno. “In addition, we are the only research center in Europe equipped with both laboratories, ESR and Luminescence, and one of the few in the world”.
"Also decisive was the offering of Burgos as a city for congresses and all the cultural attractions available, including the possibility of visiting the Atapuerca site, something which was a factor of great weight in our candidature", adds Gloria López, while proudly holding the Masai staff accrediting them as the next hosts for this event, which will be held from July 12 to 17.
