Raquel Hernando Santamaría obtained her European Ph.D. in 2022 from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and the Institut Català de Paleoecologia Humana i Evolució Social (IPHES, Tarragona). Her research focused on the study of dental microwear as an indicator of diet in farming groups from the Recent Prehistory of the Iberian Peninsula. During 2024–2025, she was a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral researcher at the National Center for Research on Human Evolution (CENIEH, Burgos, Spain), where she investigated the dietary behavior of Late Pleistocene primates from the Middle Awash region (Ethiopia). She is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), where she is developing a project focused on breastfeeding, weaning, and early-life dietary transitions in past human populations through dental histology and isotope geochemistry.
