This week, María Martinón Torres, director of the Centro Nacional de Investigación sobre la Evolución Humana (CENIEH), has visited Japan as the guest of the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo and the Asociación de Científicos Españoles in Japan (ACE-Japan) and took the opportunity of her stay to publicize the research conducted by the CENIEH and the Atapuerca project.

At the Instituto Cervantes in Tokyo, and accompanied by the director of that institution, Víctor Ugarte, the director of the CENIEH gave a talk entitled From Asia to Europe: what Atapuerca tells us about human evolution. For its part, at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo, and as part of the Cycle “Talking about Science”, Martinón participated, together with the Japanese paleoanthropologist Gen Suwa of the University of Tokyo in a dialog on how the findings of new species are changing our comprehension of the evolution of Homo sapiens.

The conversation, presented by the science attaché at the Spanish Embassy in Japan, José Antonio de Ory, and the president of ACE Japan, Susana de Vega, was moderated by Marta Pina, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Kyoto. This scientific dialog is part of the Embassy's calendar of activities to mark International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
