The Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, has visited this afternoon the Centro Nacional de Investigación sobre la Evolución Humana (CENIEH), and has highlighted the scientific and technological excellence of the CENIEH research team and the support of the Government of Spain to this international reference center.
Minister Morant, accompanied by the director of CENIEH, María Martinón Torres, and the subdelegate of the Government, Pedro de la Fuente, toured the facilities of the Center, including the Conservation and Restoration Laboratory, the Microscopy and Micro-Computed Tomography Laboratory, and the Geochronology laboratories.
In addition, the Minister had the opportunity to enter the vault where the most important fossils of the collections housed at CENIEH are deposited, and to visit one of the new laboratories, the Experimental Archaeology and Taphonomy Laboratory, where she was able to follow a demonstration of lithic tool knapping, and was presented with one of the bifaces made on site.
Finally, in the Comparative Anatomy Laboratory, which houses the osteological collection of European Pleistocene fauna (COAC), Diana Morant recorded her visit to the Center in the CENIEH signature book, declaring that "it is a satisfaction for me to see the extraordinary work of the team of researchers who, with passion and knowledge, help us to create a better and more humane society."
