One of the strengths of the Centro Nacional de Investigación sobre la Evolución Humana (CENIEH) is its Geochronology Program. Geochronology is an essential discipline in any archaeological, paleontological and/or geological research, but which however, is barely studied. This is why we are repeating the course on this discipline, from 23 to 25 July, as part of the summer courses at the University of Burgos (UBU).
The course entitled "Introduction to Geochronology: Discovering the age of our past", is led by researcher CENIEH Davinia Moreno, an expert on Electronic Paramagnetic Resonance (ESR), and the UBU professor Angel Carrancho, an expert in Archaeomagnetism.
Participants in this course have learnt about all the dating methods and additional hints available through lectures by leading experts, such as Silviu Constantin, head of the CENIEH Uranium Series Dating research line and Christophe Falgueres, director of the Department Geochronology of the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle (MNHN) in Paris.
In addition to lectures, the program included a visit to the CENIEH laboratories for the practical application of four dating methods available at the Center as well as a visit to the Atapuerca archaeological site to close this second edition.
