Irene Romo Díez graduated on Physics from the University of Cantabria with a dissertation thesis about the characterization of iron oxides in archaeo-paleontological sediments with Raman spectroscopy. Afterwards, she completed a Master’s degree in Chemistry at the Interface with Biology and Materials Science in the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she carried out research on the optimization of microstructured SERS (Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy) substrates fabrication for the analysis of contemporary art materials, as well as the analysis of archaeological sediments from Sierra de Atapuerca archaeological site using magnetic techniques (EPR, SQUID…). She is currently pursuing a PhD at CENIEH led by Dr. Parés and Dr. Duval, financed by the Atapuerca Foundation, where she focuses on the characterization of minerals of geochronological interest at the Sierra de Atapuerca archaeological site.
