Cognitive Archaeology

This line of research focuses on the study of cognition prehistoric human groups through lithic technology. It allows us to go beyond the analysis of the object itself to explore the social mechanisms and cognitive processes that influenced its production and contributed to its technological advance.

The methodological foundations are:

- The analysis of lithic tools and knapping processes.

- Geometric morphometrics, based on 3D models, to study the material management by exploring the volume and shape of each object.

- Experimental archaeology, which allows us to reproduce knapping sequences, understanding the processes and interpreting the choices made by each knapper.

The Cognitive Archaeology line is therefore interdisciplinary and flexible, adaptable to different research projects.
