ACHEULOAFRICA

The ACHEULOAFRICA research project investigates the major issue of the shift in the Acheulian technology through time and whether or not the Acheulian shows clear and progressive refinement through time. Systematic field surveys and excavations will be carried out at Gona (Ethiopia), Ain Boucherit and Tighennif (Algeria) and other sites for investigating the one and half million years (1.75-0.2 Ma) of the evolution of the Acheulian industry, the behavioural evolution of H. erectus, and the emergence of H. sapiens in East and North Africa. The project has great potential for investigating the behavioural evolution of H. erectus up to the emergence of H. sapiens with Late Acheulian/Early MSA artifacts ~0.3-0.1 Ma.
